I have an MA in History and a Foundation Degree in Real Estate and currently hold a PhD fellowship of The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). This is affiliated with the Centre for Urban History at the University of Antwerp. I am also chair of the Antwerp Society for History and Construction History (AVBG) and a member of the Environmental Planning Committee of the City of Antwerp (GECORO).
My project focuses on the social and economic functionalities of real property in the city of Antwerp at the end of the 14th century. The methodological aspects of the research project includes the conversion of textual information from thousands of deeds into a wide range of spatial data fit for processing in GIS, and the construction of a ‘cadastral’ base map of Antwerp around 1400 on which this variety of data can be visualised and analysed on the level of the single dwelling or parcel.
